Christmas party frocks – not for stick insects

I’m tackling another request from a reader today, folks:

“Jo, when are you doing Christmas party frocks? Need one for wedding – colourful, glamorous but warm and not for stick insects!”

Your wish, my dear, is my command…

Vintage = big. Velvet = bigger. And don’t we all love wearing the kind of dress that we would have adored at the age of seven? This bow detail dress from Kew isn’t huge on colour, but it’s rich and lush and perfect for winter wedding glamour – also very kind to fuller figures:

Following on from yesterday’s purple theme, I’ve just discovered the website Silk & Sawdust – a lovely lady called Claudia takes vintage patterns to a group of dressmakers in Thailand and comes home with amazing (affordable) vintage-style dresses. For glam, coverage, colour and unique-ness, I’m plumping for the purple wiggle:

A prom dress is fab for flattering the figure, and it also lends itself extremely well to a cropped cardi or bolero, thus keeping your patatties warm if the temperature drops. The colour of this embellished prom dress from Warehouse is just to die for:

Now, this might just be me, but the NYC print sequinned silk dress by Planet at Debenhams demands attention in a Sex & the City, 80s-crazy kinda way. The graphic print deflects from any figure issues, it’s a bold design that takes some fashion courage to wear and it will be a talking point. Best of all, it’s marked down from £149 to £55.20 – geddin:

Finally, am loving this chiffon dress by Yumi – I’d wear it with a shocking pink slip underneath, tights and sky heel heels. Gorgeous:
