Golden globe fashion winners
I get ridiculously overexcited about the red carpet. One day, I’m convinced I’ll be on it. Sadly, the likelihood of Wes Anderson discovering me in a bar and asking me to play his next quirky female lead is fast diminishing, but perhaps when my am-dram-loving child is picking up a statuette (if I’m not too old to leave the house) I’ll have my moment…
For now, I’m content with staring at pics of leading ladies in their pretty frocks. Last night’s Golden globes were a bit all over the place in fashion terms, but that made it easier to pick my two fave ladies.
Hate to say it (no, really HATE to say it) but Angelina did it for me in her sparkly, emerald Atelier Versace gown (you know me and green). The colour was ace, the sparkle was subtle enough not to make her look show-offy and the low-back / cinched-cut was gorgeous – tres 70s. There was lots of green around last night, but (deep breath) Angelina did it best (GRRRRR!)

As well as green, there was lots of nude on the red carpet – and plenty of celebs getting it all wrong (I’m looking at you Michelle Williams).
Best dressed of the night (imho) was Sandra Bullock, who showed exactly how to pull off a nude floor-sweeper. Basically, match it with tough hair, dramatic eyes, rock accessories and just the right amount of embellishment. At 46, I don’t think Sandra has EVER looked this gorgeous or this trendy and that gives me something to aim for.
Sandra’s dress is by Jenny Packham – and I’ll be obsessing over her dresses from this day forward.
For now – inspired by Sandra – I might order this beaded nude dress in the Topshop sale (a steal at £35) – it hasn’t quite got the same oomph as Sandra’s maxi, but until I get that Oscar invite, it’s slightly more practical for the pub…
