Berkeley Dress Show 2011 with Hanna Marie Hutchison

Can you believe I was allowed into such a posh function? The Berkeley Dress Show is the first official event of the London ‘season’; the models are debutantes, a real life princess was in attendance and Hello! sent a photographer (I was snapped, let’s see if I make it in there).

We toasted the queen and sipped Champagne before tucking into incredible fish and chips (with mushy peas) at the exclusive Berkeley Hotel. It doesn’t get much higher class than that (you’ll be pleased to hear that I didn’t go easy on the ketchup in spite of the auspiciousness of the occasion).

The reason I was there? I was invited by the gorgeous and v talented Hanna Marie Hutchison. I interviewed Hanna for LOOK in 2010, after Cheryl Cole wore one of her dresses on the X Factor, and we’ve stayed in touch ever since, working together on the Fabulous ‘Style Muse’ piece you may have heard me mention once or twice.

Hanna was at the Berkeley event to show her new collection, with the debutantes modelling. Every single gown was breathtaking, but a white jumpsuit (naturally) caught my eye.

It was a fun evening; pomp and ceremony were interspersed with fab music from the Jive Aces and some truly awesome hats by royal milliner John Boyd. I was at a table with Hanna’s lovely family and Daphne Sherman (Ben’s widow).

Of course, what to wear at this occasion had given me great cause for concern, but luckily, on Saturday, I stumbled upon a fantastic stall in Clapham’s Northcote Road market – Marmalade Maids. I’ll tell you more about MM and the fantastic designs of Anami and Janine in another post, but for now, here I am with Hanna Marie (who is wearing HMH Couture, of course) sporting one of their vintage-inspired, kimono-esque creations:
