Balham vintage – it’s all the rage

I love this time of year. The colours are so vivid, pumpkins all over the shop, weather turning colder. It’s aces. Deffo the time of year for vintage shopping…

And that’s just what me and my fellow South London lady, Gill, did today.

We went to check out a vintage market in Balham Library, where I bought a 70s dress (quite spenny at £30 – unlike Leeds prices, eh?) and an unusual double owl chain (that was a steal at £8). It goes with my kitsch little JOY ring.

The stall holders in the tiny fair weren’t all that friendly, or keen on me taking pictures. We suspect they were from Spitalfields – where else? So let’s say no more about that.

We then did a little circuit of the charity shops in Balham (there are many and they are choice), where Gill found a stupendous cherry-knit jumper for £8,and finished our afternoon of vintage hunting with an apples and pears cider in the shabby chic Balham Bowls Club. Lovely.

Gill finds her dream jumper and some retro patterns – she has a fab style going on, our Gill
