I feel it's about time I did a foodie post to make the mouth water and yesterday, before we went to see Avengers Assemble, we had a Sunday-lunch-a-thon in the gorgeous Surrey surroudings of The Bell in Fetcham.
Because my other half works in pubs most of the time (he's the artist behind many a blackboard/mural/window script you will have come across if you live or work in London and the surrounding counties), he is a diamond when it comes to recommending the best places to eat and drink. He really rates The Bell - it's run by a mega-friendly couple who welcome families and pride themselves on the quality of the food (plus, they used to work in America and are absolutely top notch when it comes to customer service).
The food is utterly delish, it's got a genuine country pub atmosphere with heaps of style to boot - and to celebrate the bank holiday, I decided to bust out a pink and red paisley dress from Oasis that I have owned for over 15 years and am now classing as vintage. I love that dress as much now as when I hunted through about 10 Oasis stores looking for my size, and if it isn't proof that occasionally there are high street purchases worth keeping for the long haul, I don't know what is...
The pub has a cosy bar area at the front and a stylish restaurant to the rear - we were in mid-afternoon, just after the Sunday lunch rush
I could not resist a traditional prawn cocktail starter on a Great British Bank Holiday...
...neither could the Mister
And it had to be a Sunday roast with lashings of gravy - if you like a generous portion you will love it here
We even went for stuffing on the side (although that pushed us over the edge and came home in a doggy bag to be devoured today)
Dessert was the highlight for me
How I managed to down this divine mango and lime posset, I'll never know - I must have hidden reserves of eating power (they wouldn't be "hidden" for long if I ate like this every day)
Mr. Fashion Detective managed to move this tiramasu - the chef's speciality
The pub is family-run and El got to choose a little treat from the "sweet shop" behind the bar - The Bell is a fantastic venue for a family feast
As discussed, I was wearing an ancient (circa 1997) lace sleeve and paisley print dress by Oasis with my crochet tee by Topshop - it's on sale right now and goes with everything, so I highly recommend it
