My musical taste is about the same as a 65-year-old man's, so I was beside myself to hit the Royal Albert Hall last night and see the legendary Tom Petty in the flesh - he finishes his British mini break at the Isle of Wight festival this weekend, rounding off his first UK appearances in 13 years. (My dad went to the Isle of Wight festival to see Bob Dylan in 1969, sporting "a trim 'tache and fancy brogues" - so many fashionistas in my family.)
Talking of ornate shoes, my sky blue cowboy boots hadn't had an outing for ages. And could there be a more appropriate occasion? Mr. Petty was, of course, sublime (so many reasons I love him - see video clip below for just one example - but it's the George Harrison association that really does it), and the boots saw me right when I was leaping around to American Girl, Handle With Care, Free Fallin', I Won't Back Down and Runnin' Down a Dream. Wowsers. Add a couple of sparkly tops and that's a grown up night out with a musical hero sorted...
All ready for Tom; those beloved boots came from R.Soles (where else?) and were much-admired when I went to Nashville (I'm aware my thighs are starting to look thunderous in those jeans - might be time to start using Photoshop)
Classy as ever, I'm wearing a coral vest from Reiss that came free with this month's Elle (bought purely because of the slightly porny Beckham cover), a sheer embellished top from Primark and kimono shrug from Topshop
These boots have travelled the world (a bit)
I love that they are so attention grabbing with a manageable heel - it's the beauty of a fierce pair of cowboy boots
Kids - I give you a little bit of Tom Petty's magic to brighten up a rainy Thursday...
