Kylie Minogue gold X Factor dress
There was only one fashion finalist on last night’s X factor. Forget Tulisa in her rubberised, far-too-severe prom dress that she’d wedged her hooters into (I bet she had to use talc). Don’t even trouble yourself with Nicole and that strange, silver “cut-out” ball gown that made her body look like it was disjointed. And Stella McCartney may have been responsible for Rita Ora’s black, loose-fitted, harem-style jumpsuit, but it DID NOTHING FOR HER (my other half says, and I quote: “It looked like she was carrying half a pound of potatoes around in her gusset”). I could barely watch her lacklustre mash-up for fear the offending onesie was going to fall off.
Enter the Queen of Style, Kylie Minogue. I’ve always loved Kylie and the Antony Price couture gold dress she wore, with a huge split and an oversized bow, might not have been to everyone’s taste (I’ve seen more than one “Quality Street” comment) but I just loved it.

It absolutely suited the stripped-back version of “Can’t Get You Out of My Head” and the dazzling impact when she walked out on stage rivalled the style statements made in the original video (remember the first time you saw that hooded white jumpsuit? And memories of the iconic promo influenced my choice of silver tiered dress for the MAD blog awards); the super shiny, foil effect gold was perfect for her complexion – as well as stealing the limelight; and from the sweetheart neckline to the way it caressed that pert derriere of hers, it was a petite-figure-loving dress to end all dresses (although the electric blue Antony Price vintage dress she wore on Italian TV last week was pretty hawt too).
Ms. Minogue, I totally salute you.

Although Kylie’s frock was, of course, couture, you could go for a Kylie-inspired effect in one of these gorgeous gold numbers…
