SS13 fashion – ‘cos spring is just around the corner!

It couldn’t be a better start to 2013 here in London: the sky is cloudless and my NYE hangover is just about manageable. The shining sun certainly helps to focus the mind on better weather and new adventures ahead, and to celebrate that (and to do something a little bit special for the third anniversary of Fashion Detective…happy birthday to meeeeee), I wanted to share some of the lush spring and summer 2013 fashion and trends I was lucky enough to wear on my Christmas break in Tenerife.

We might not have the Olympics to look forward to, or a Diamond Jubilee to enjoy this year, but I hope you’ll agree that we do have some cracking SS13 fashion to wear…

I’m starting with the most stunning: I wore this amazing silk skirt and top when we explored the dramatic landscape of Mount Teide

This fab SS13 floral look – the “Blossoms that Dance” top (£200) and the “Blossoms that Dance” skirt (£265) – is from Kelly Love’s SS13 Collection

You can wear the pieces together for a strong look, or team the top with plain bottoms for a more elegant effect: or really go for a contrast impact with an equally vivid floral print piece

It sure was windy! If you’re as into the Kelly Love SS13 “Blossoms that Dance” print as much as I am, it’s also available as a loose cut blouse, shorts and an amazing dress

I wore Kelly’s designs with a seriously super-duper Clements Ribeiro print back cardigan (TK Maxx alert) – I’m seriously digging yellow for spring

Off to the beach at Los Gigantes – and this firey red and orange printed jersey dress is a top choice for early spring

I really love the colours of this soft, draped Batik print jersey dress brand new for SS13 from Bonprix (£27.99) – it’s also a perfect day-to-night look, especially on holiday (to prove that point, we went straight from the beach to a cocktail bar)

The dress is from the feminine Bodyflirt Collection at Bonprix – I certainly liked the way the ruching gives curves a boost and detracts attention from any unwanted “lumps and bumps” (you know what I’m saying, ladies)

And you may have noticed I was wearing the dress with the ultimate footwear for SS13 – Babe glitter jellies by JuJu Shoes. I’ve been obsessed with them since Manuela Dack put her models in them for LFW and on holiday I wore them day and night. Yes, they’re Marmite shoes – and I love them. Pick up a pair (when they’re released for SS13) from stores including Faith @ Debenhams, New Look and Topshop

Breathe in Jo, breathe in. This is the first of two fantastic SS13 bikinis I wanted to show you.

I love a bikini top that you can wear off-beach. This is the top of the SS13 Fame lime fizz triangle bikini by Freya – and you can buy it in your individual bra size, so it fits perfectly and properly
I’m wearing the Freya bikini with a simple sleeveless shirt from M&S – and if you like those stunning tropical print trousers, read on

Oh yes, kids – those Capri pants are part of a suit that you might describe as a SS13 headturner

Prints just keep getting bolder and I’m all for it – and if you’re keen on this suit, it’s another affordable choice: from the bpc Collection at Bonprix this time

If you’re up for it, the tropical print blazer is £39.99 and the matching Capri pants are £22.99

Here’s a more traditional, but equally eye-catching, digital sunset print holiday dress. It’s from Playful Promises

Playful Promises is a brand better known for lingerie but with a growing collection of affordable clothing: the dress in question (which I’m wearing with pale teal leather sandals) has just been reduced to £25

This is another bold daytime choice that works perfectly for evening cocktails / clubbing too – I was particularly fond of the way it clashed with my tangerine nails

Sticking with purple, but this is a much more subtle choice for SS13

Yep, that water was cold. Fashion-spotters will know that this dress is actually from the JW Anderson for Topshop Collection for AW12/13 – but I bought it knowing full-well it was the perfect beach dress

As this awesome sauce dress is now only £15, I suggest you dive in

Here’s another current season dress that I think works brilliantly as a spring/holiday crossover

See – it even matches my sun lounger

Do try not to be distracted by that enormous sangria – and head over to River Island where you can still get hold of the pink space print version for £25

And as I promised you two bikinis – here be the second (yes, I said that in a pirate voice – it’s a parrot print innit?)

This SS13 Huit “Treasure Island” design will be available in time for your spring and summer hols (stockists include, ASOS and figleaves) – and you can order it in your bra size

Brace yourselves: it’s the bikini shot – on the rocks. And on that note, let the 2013 fitness and even-more-fashion regime begin! Happy new year everyone.
