Channelling Cilla Black fashion: 60s knit in olive green

If I will go catching up on shows set in the sixties about Liverpudlian fashion icons like Cilla Black, it will cost me money…

Straight after teaching my fashion journalism students on Friday, I swung by Topshop Oxford Circus to rummage through the Peekaboo Vintage concession: I was in hot pursuit of a 60s knit.

In the fabulously styled Cilla, the red-headed Sheridan Smith is sporting all manner of colour block roll necks and bright 60s dresses. All of it is exactly to my taste.

Inspired by the knits – and the changing of the seasons – I grabbed this queen olive green cashmere jumper. The earthy colour is just perfect for the time of year; great for redheads, but also lovely against the autumnal backdrop we’ve all got to play with for the next few weeks.

The green knit was £55 from Peekaboo

I matched the new/old sweater with a brilliant Paris print vintage dress (with humongous collars) I’ve had knocking around the wardrobe for a few months, navy tights and pistachio brogues.

This is certainly a good season in which to wheel out some retro-toned colour a la Cilla – and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

Big collars clearly make me smile…
