December 1960s fashion – five gold things

It’s nearly Chriiiistmas!

I may not have bought gifts for anyone else yet, but I did get down to Posh Totty Designs in Brighton last weekend to collect my fabulous new necklace: a bespoke pendant in rose gold. It’s a little plectrum engraved with the word “Something”. You know why.

As per the pic above, I’m wearing it with my gold apple pendant – again, you know why.

Nothing like a Beatles statement to make me smile.

And in further happy news, H&M’s Wes Anderson-directed Christmas ad starring the wonderful Adrien Brody has warmed my heart.

My number one director has a healthy appetite for 1960s style, music and icons, so no surprise that John Lennon’s Happy Xmas (War Is Over) features at the end.

You’ll also hear a cute, choral rendition of Little Drummer Boy – a nod, I suspect, to David Bowie. Another one of Anderson’s heroes.

Have a watch and see if it brings a tear to your eye.

As well as making me all smushy and emotional, the ad propelled me down to H&M to check out the Christmas “Come Together” collection: there’s a lot to love.

I’ve included one of H&M’s Conscious pieces in my “five gold things” edit for the month, a collection of five 60s inspired outfits with a golden touch, perfect for the vintage lover’s Christmas celebrations.

I wanted to put one look together from current collections on the high street: as well as the green/gold jumper from H&M, in the first look I’m wearing a velvet shift dress from Gap, tights from Accessorize and cherry red Dr Marten’s. Finishing touch: winter berry lipstick.

It’s an easy look to put together with plenty of 60s spirit – and it’s a good choice for casual Christmas events.

Next up is a Christmas classic. I picked up this gorgeous gold tunic with fluted sleeves from a vintage store on Holloway Road.

A genuine late 60s piece, the gold thread sparkles and the beautiful print makes me think of Rishikesh…at Christmas? Maybe.

I’m wearing it with black and white peep toes from Jones and layered silver and gold chains to add to the hippie twist. Tights, sheer. No compromise.

Next up, here’s a mish-mash of high street and vintage. I’m wearing a sleeveless vintage shift, with gold embellishments and trims, with a past-season navy top from Warehouse.

Gold tights and (current season) navy dolly shoes from Clarks complete the look: it’s a good day-to-night outfit, if that’s your poison.

This next dress I love. It’s an unusual lingerie-meets-partywear style from the 60s, picked up at a vintage shop off Brick Lane.

The burgundy lace layer makes the gold sparkle to perfection. The gold bow…60s-tastic.

I wore it a few years back for my 60s-inspired wedding anniversary party and am stepping out here in vintage Kay’s heels and gold tights.

And for the golden finale, what shouts 60s Christmas louder than a vintage gold Missoni mini dress?

Louder than bombs.

This is styled very simply with vintage gold sixties shoes…and it could well be my Christmas Day outfit…
