Sad news and a spread

I received some very sad news at the Jubilee party I was at last night and so I’d only taken a few piccies when the camera was swiftly packed away and more important things (namely, heavy drinking) were attended to.

Yesterday my grandma, a top Yorkshire lass who made it to the grand old age of 93, passed away. She was bang into cooking and she loved a spread; I think she would have been mighty impressed by the retro Jubilee tea party the guests put together. And on that note, this post is dedicated to her, a beautiful lady with movie star looks who was always super-stylish and loved nothing more than shaking her head at some of my more “daring outfits”. Like the sign up there says, she was truly great and will be sorely missed.

This one’s for you, Grams…

“99” cup cakes
Not sure these would cool you down on a hot day, but don’t they look delish?

Strawberries and choc cake
Nanny’s homemade Scotch eggs were a big hit
Scrummy scones
These buns were just so photogenic – their creator writes the foodie blog, The 1970s Diet
Never have French Fancies looked so British
Tradition! Cheese hedgehog
Twiglets, natch
The crown cake would have been the perfect centrepiece…
…but it was usurped by the spectacular spam salad
The spread was so large it had to, erm, spread out into the kitchen
Patriotic cocktail jellies
And something fizzy to wash it all down with
