My night at the MAD Blog Awards 2012

OK, I’ll be absolutely honest; when I was shortlisted for a MAD Blog Award I was terrified by the prospect of the actual bash. I’m totes not plugged-in to the mummy blogger network and most of the people involved in the MADs are. Plus, women are like cats: one at a time they’re fantastic, too many in a room all at once = shit scary…

But last night wasn’t the scare-fest I feared. And that’s because I was lucky enough to meet a few of the other nominees beforehand at the summer yacht party – nothing takes the edge off your nerves like a bunch of pals, and I really do feel like I’ve made friends for life within this whole awards process.

One of those new mates went and bagsed the Best Fashion Blog award: The Baby Wears Prada is all about Lucie (one incredibly stylish 18-month old) and what she wears. It’s written by super-mum (and fellow Northern lass) Liz, who is a legend and absolutely deserved to take the prize.

The best fashion blog category was sponsored by TK Maxx – as was my outfit

Of course, the downside to making fabulous new friends is talking absolute garbage to them at 2am, an expensive black cab ride home after missing all the tubes and the gigantic (seriously, HUGE) hangover I’m now nursing.

Would I enter Fashion Detective in those awards again? Abso-freakin-lutely! I won’t lie, I find the mum blogging community largely intimidating and am still not sure fashion journalists go down all that well within its ranks, but as a result of your very generous nominations (thank you, thank you, thank you!), I partied on a yacht, got a snazzy new dress, bag and shoes, stuffed my face with a gorgeous dinner, drank litres (ouch) of wine and met some seriously cool ladies.

As (alleged love maniac) Justin Lee Collins would say, good times.

Man: can this girl work a room? Liz (Baby Wears Prada), wearing Vivienne Westwood, mingled with a mascot as soon as we arrived

Helen (Coco Mama Style) looked beautiful in Love Moschino

Cathy (Mummy Travels) only gave birth 10 weeks ago: this is pure evidence of MUM POWER!

I’ve known Cathy for yonks – it was good to have an old buddy (with an amazeballs faux fur cape!) in da house

Meanwhile, Liz makes a new BFF – Myleene Klass, innit

Girl crush alert! This is Emma (Adventures of an Unfit Mother) looking gorgeous

And Emma’s hubby doesn’t scrub up too badly either (poor Damian – one of about three guys at the entire event – had to put up with me burbling about photography, America and how gorgeous his wife is for hours)

We ate squid, followed by chicken, followed by PIE (aka chocolate and pear torte/tart): all delicious

And the winner is….

You can totally see why she won *winks*

Back to reality: El gets stuck into the goodie bag and reminds me why I was able to enter these awards in the first place (cheers, mate)

With thanks to TK Maxx and the Mad Blog Awards
