Girls night out in Paris

We survived! Only just. In a 24 hour whirlwind we sank champers, quaffed cocktails and downed a Camembert, we saw the Eiffel Tower sparkle, chilled out in our very own gorgeous apartment, went all chic in the Pompidou, scoffed a hearty supper (just don’t mention the after dinner grappa) and were refused entry to three establishments (too drunk, too old, too straight – in that order).

To prove that mums just wanna have fun, here are all the beans fit to spill…

Such an apt name, non? A morning train didn’t stop us getting the party started

The girls arrive at Gare du Nord – is Paris ready?

Giggles and bubbles in the station bar (we’re soooo classy)

Out on the streets of Paris, Christmas is a-coming

Prancer and Dasher?

I spy the gorgeous Les Arts et Metiers cafe, just around the corner from our Marais apartment

My divine “St. Germain NY” cocktail, made with St. Germain elderflower liqueur

Lovely drinks with all the trimmings

Settling into the stunning apartment on Rue au Maire in the heart of the Marais – it’s in an atmospheric old building, with lots of bustling restaurants and bars right downstairs, but surprisingly quiet once you’re inside. Id definitely recommend it if you’re after an affordable base in the French Capital – as well as the double bedroom there’s a sofa bed so it’s great value for friends, two couples or a family to hire

For once I ditched the dress and chose paisley glitter trousers from Topshop worn with my latest charity shop find – a sheer, floral lace pink top

I finished the outfit with exceedingly comfy studded ankle boots from Primark (£20)

Our first stop on the ultimate Girls Night Out was Le Georges restaurant at the top of the Pompidou Centre

It’s not cheap here, but the interior is tres chic, the views are breathtaking and the cocktails are delish – make sure you call in advance to secure a table

Service is snail-paced, but the cocktails are worth the wait
Don’t you just LOVE the bonded lace shift dress my friend Jules wore for the occasion? It’s Butterfly Matthew Williamson (natch) and if you want to steal her style, get in there quick while the party event is still on and get 25% off

We stepped out onto to the roof terrace to watch the Eiffel Tower get glitzy during it’s hourly light show – sooo Christmasy! As we didn’t have long in the city, this breathtaking view was such a bonus

On the other side of Place George Pompidou there’s a great little cafe where it’s happy hour all night – no wonder we’d started to lose it

Pastis and olives – how very French

After a scrummy supper at the Royal Beaubourg restaurant on Rue Beaubourg, we had a relaxing French beer, out on the pavement – the perfect end to a perfect day
