I’m a Mad Blog awards finalist 2013

You might call today “one of those days”. It started out reet lovely, El all dressed up as Bilbo Baggins for World Book Day and I finished off a really exciting travel piece for a new editor. Then I met the lady who is buying our house and we talked about The Beatles and hair colour and wonky floors. All good.

Good until I realised I had double booked myself in the worst possible way: apparently, I don’t know what day of the week it is anymore and managed to be two and a half hours late for an important date that I thought was happening tomorrow. “Doh” doesn’t even come close. And because I had to dash to East London (crying in a cab after getting lost in Canning Town – seriously) I was forced to let down my fellow mums, who were left chopping fruit for the school disco without this particular dickhead in tow. Thank heavens for my husband, who stepped into the fray, like the legend he is, and not only chopped and faffed around with speakers, but also stayed for the disco and helped with the tuck shop. I know, he’s a keeper.

But instead of coming home and crumbling under the strain of trying (and failing) to be a super-journalist, super-mum and super-human, I came home to the news that Fashion Detective has been shortlisted for a MAD Blog Award in the Fashion & Beauty category for the second year running.

I’m, frankly, gobsmacked. And just in time for Mother’s Day too.

I couldn’t believe I did it last year and two times running has knocked my little (lace fringed) socks off. I honestly can’t thank you all enough, readers. It was soooo much fun last year and I met the bestest people. I’m very sad that the two special mates I made last year aren’t in there with me, but I guess that means there’s the chance to meet some new, brilliant bloggers (and maybe I’ll wear a massive ball gown this time and smuggle those two cheeky girls in under my hoop).

Any road up, the roller coaster ride I’ve been on today might be making me ramble (and gush), so I will bid you goodnight with a massive bedtime (virtual) snog. And seeing as I’m off to bed feeling like a superhero, instead of the super-loser I thought I was a few hours ago, I might just celebrate my good fortune tomorrow as follows…
