Top three Christmas fragrance

If you’ve ever wondered what the Fashion Detective smells like (!), I can tell you that it’s all about earthy tones of sandalwood, cedar, patchouli and neroli, spring dew mixed with citrus and fresh linen, sweet hints of rose and wee (only joking about the rose).

My go-to fragrance – if anyone wishes to buy me a smelly present – is Prada’s Infusion D’Iris: to the well-trained senses it pongs of delicate lily of the valley, powdery violet, heliotrope, sensual cedar and neroli, with a fabulously fresh finish of clean, ironed linen. Yum.

But there are a few less expensive, similarly sumptuous everyday scents I favour too – great for gifts if you’re stuck for what to buy me any ladies in your lives…

I’ve only just discovered this gorgeous bed and body mist thanks to working near a Rituals store in St. Pancras station: it’s enriched with calming Yi Yi Ren and white lotus to keep you serene, as well as smelling lovely

This is a corker and lasts for months: Lush Breath of God solid perfume is
blended from cedarwood, vetivert and sandalwood and lighter, more feminine, lemon, melon and neroli – just beautiful

This is quite a heady and invigorating blend, but I still tend to pick it for everyday use as it settles wonderfully. Space NK’s Laughter is all about the sweet & spicy: bergamot, grapefruit and lime meet juniper berry, angelica root and verbena with aromatic notes of rosemary, fennel and coriander – all atop a woody base of patchouli, amber and musk with just a wee bite of ginger
