Sixties Sunday – 60s inspired living room
Welcome, friends, to my midcentury inspired living room – also known as, the Cool Room.
When I switched this blog to WordPress and devoted it to 60s fashion and style, I promised you a bit of interior design, too. Finally, after many months of being “almost there” we have completed our upstairs snug: a room of retro decor, comfort and geekdom.
This is the room that may encourage my almost-11-year-old son to stay at home with his mummy until he’s 40 – but it’s a chance I’m willing to take. We created it to be a family hang-out, with a TV and music and games, but it’s also the ideal hideout for my boy and his friends, when the adults are downstairs (or where they will be, once the building work on the kitchen/diner is done).
We have loads of cool 60s and 70s touches in the room – hence the name. There’s the G Plan for John Lewis Sixty Seven sofa in fleck grey; the customised G Plan TV unit; the bold, psychedelic cushions from Pop Boutique; the crazy, vintage, Flash Gordon pinball machine from Lavish Habit in Balham; the eBay ottoman; the John Lewis Sonoma sofa bed in sage green; and there’s vintage comics, Beatles memorabilia, Hot Toys, board games and a cardboard R2-D2.
My partner (also a 60s fanatic – and the biggest geek going) says that we shouldn’t call it the Cool Room ourselves because it’s for other people to say whether it’s cool or not. Well, see what you think…
