Sixties Sunday: Orla Kiely watch for Christmas
Oh how lucky I am! Those lovely people at WatchShop.com asked me to choose a treat from the Orla Kiely collection as an early Christmas present.
As a 60s fan who is nuts about print, Orla is an easy sell for me: I am constantly wearing pieces from the collection she did with Uniqlo and my house (and garden) is peppered with goodies from her John Lewis range.
When I did a shoot for the Observer in the summer my fave outfit was a black Orla A-line dress with a sheer neckline: sadly out of my budget but oh, so beautiful.
So when I got chance to choose one of her watches…well, there was little hesitation.
I’m all about the browns at the moment so I plumped for the Iris design with a brown leather strap and faded pink floating flowers – 60s-tastic! – with a stainless steel silver case and hour and minute hands. Very retro and the perfect mix of a slightly masculine shape with feminine details.
There’s a marvellous matching Orla branded box and the inside of the genuine leather strap boasts a signature Kiely print.
It will suit my entire wardrobe but, in the interests of showing you just how well, I coordinated it with my Sunday best for today’s post: a mustard knitted polo and a brown courdroy pinafore dress. I had the exact same outfit in 1977, when I was three. Make of that what you will.
If you know any Orla Kiely fans, and you’re buying them a last minute Christmas gift, the watch is £110 and you get free next day delivery within the UK. Check out the full Orla Kiely collection for a watch to suit any fan of the brand.
